Disability at Malaga Airport

Hi, Jo
The information you provide on the Costa del Sol is very helpful, thank you.
I am mobility impaired and have noticed several questions and your comments on the subject of assistance for disabled people at Malaga Airport.
This year, on July 26th, Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2006 comes into force which should improve matters for all air travellers, throughout Europe, who are disabled or have reduced mobility - even if this is temporary eg. a broken leg.
The legislation requires airports, not airlines, to provide 'high quality assistance' in order to enable these passengers to access air travel, as do people without disabilities.
(EC) No. 1107/2006 makes very interesting reading and, hopefully, will bring about improvements and ensure consistency of assistance at all airports.
Kind wishes, Susan

Hi Susan Thank you very much for that, I shallput it up on the messageboard. We are always grateful for any information regarding disability travel. Only people like yourselves can give us the truth. Do you work in the travel industry? Where can I fiind more information like you provide. Kind Regards Joanne

Hi Joanne
I am just an ordinary passenger and, as it happens, I'm travelling to Malaga Airport, from the UK, tomorrow morning.
The Air Transport Users Council website was where I found the EC regulation information at;
www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=306
Hope that helps a bit - I'm doing last minute packing today but I'll contact you after my return, if that's ok, and see what more I can dig up - perhaps I'll have some information on my airport experience in Malaga.
Kind regards, Susan

Train from Mijas to Malaga then to Seville

Hi Jo - We will be in Mijas Costa at the end of March and want to go to Seville and stay overnight. Is it easier to get the train from Fuengirola to Malaga and then onto Seville. Or take a taxi straight to Malaga and then onwards.Have you any suggestions of a good hotel to book. Somewhere central and reasonably priced. We could have the use of a car but how is the parking in Seville? What would you suggest is best. Thanks Dina .

Hi, Probably easier just getting the train to malaga main station and changiing. We always drive and getting to Seville is normally 2 hours but when we have to try and find out hotel it turns into 3!!! There are lots of hotels...we have been to a couple which are right in the shopping area one was called alfonso something...a new modern one which was nice. We once stayed in a large tryp hotel which was cheap but the location wasnt very nice. If I can remember the name of the other nice hotel I stayed Ill let you know Regards Joanne

Traveling and Eating in Estepona

Hola Jo, Que tal? I am very much looking forward to a last minute holiday I arranged this week in Estepona in March for my family (husband and two kids 6 and 9) and wonder if it is feasible for us to do all our travelling by public transport. I understand this is excellent in Spain and very reasonable, but can you get to places like Selwo safari park by bus, or to where you need to get to in order to have a day trip to Gibraltar/Tangiers for example? Is it expensive to go to the latter two places? My husband is very reluctant to drive in Spain and as I haven't passed my test (not through lack of trying I might add!) we would like to see as much as possible in our 10 days there. Is it too far from Seville for example to go for a day trip? The kids are pretty good at travelling and are very interested in new places and interesting sights. I have read that you can get a bus from Malaga airport to Marbella. I presume you can then take one to Estepona, but would it be better to go into Malaga and get a bus direct to Estepona? Sorry for the 100 questions but i am a bit clueless about it all? Muchas gracias Marion

Hi Marion, Its great that you want to do so much but if I was doing that then I would definately hire a car. The bus from Malaga Airport to Marbella Station is great but then you need to change buses. You maybe need to come back to Marbella to catch the bus to Sevillle or you may be able to catch it in Estepona. Seville is just over 2 hours away so it could be a bit much for 1 day....we always stay minimum 1 night. Its all feasible, big hotels often do excursions to Gibralter daily and the buses to go to Granada Seville, Gibraltar. Here is the link for the buses http://www.ctsa-portillo.com/ Its alot of traveliing and if you are happy going by bus then thats great but I think would get much more out of it hiring a car. Regards Joanne

Hi again Jo. Thanks for that - definitely food for thought. Speaking of food, do you have any info on restaurants in Estepona, prices, recommendations etc. We would love to try the local specialities but also enjoy all cusines (especially Indian, and don't say you can get that anytime because we have to travel six miles from where we live to get an authentic curry!)Regards Marion

I dont know the restaurants too well but at Laguna village is a great Mai Thai Restarant. Its very international here where you will find Indian, Chinese, Italian...everything which is why we live here!

Malaga Airport to Dona Lola Club Mijas Costa

Hi Jo.

I've just got you on screen here what a surprise.

I went on to see about buses from Malaga airport to Dona lola club in Mijas costa, we are going to arrive about 20.10 on a Saturday so, can you please tell me whether there are any buses running there at that time of night, or would it be better to hire a car? or get a taxi? I was told that the price of a taxi is about 60euros?one way is this correct?

Hope you can help.
Kind regards.

Ann.

Hi Ann

Here is a map its around 36km.

Buses will still run. You can either get to malaga City and get a bus from there or wait at the airport and get the airprt bus to Marbella Bus Station, then get a taxi from there. You could even get the train oppostie the Airport to Fuengirola and get a taxi from there which shouldnt be too much.

It depends on what you want to spend. Depending on how long you are here for sometimes renting a car can be the price of a taxi each way.

HOpe this helps

Driving from Algeciras to malaga Airport

Hi Jo

I'm impressed with your Malaga airport related advice, and need some. We are travelling to Malaga at the very end of March; staying in Malaga for one night, then want to travel by train to Seville. Do we need to book this train travel, or can we do it at the station? And if so, which station?

Secondly, we will pick up a hire car in Seville to travel south and will need to drive back to Malaga airport from a little place between Tarifa and Algeciras. How long should we allow for the journey? For dropping off the hire car (Eurocar)? And for checking in, as I hear that Spanish security has tightened up since our last trip.

Many thanks if you can help us out.

Sandie

Hi Sandie

here is a map from googlemaps

its around 150km so Id leave a couple of hours just to get to the airport then extra time for dropping the car off 30 mins and then your checkin time.

Security seems to go up and down, last time we went they were ok, the time before it was a nightmare. Id allow the normal 1.5 to 2 hours before take off.

Regards

Joanne
