Ibis Hotel in Malaga City

Hi Jo - we are arriving in Malaga airport in mid June 2008 and need to get to IBIS Hotel in Malaga Center City. We are told to take local train outside airport to station Gare de Malaga and then.....walk??

We would like to know where to catch train - how many stations down the line our stop is and, if possible, find out of hotel is witihin walking distance form train or if we need a taxi.

Also, in early June, coming from Torremolinos to Malaga airport - what is the train station and how long to Malaga airport.

Thanks in advance,

John

Hi John

The website for the trains in Spain is www.renfe.es

The train is only about 10 minutes to Torremolinos.

I would say just take a taxi to the Ibis, but there is a minimum charge of about 13€uros.

As you come out of the airport opposite are signs for the train station. you need to get to Malaga Centro Station and then the hotel is about 5 minutes walk. This is for Ibis Ciudad.

Short Term Parking Malaga Airport

Hi Jo

In July I have to drive to Malaga Airport (from Costa Tropical) to collect some family at Arrivals.

I've only ever been through the airport when arriving and collecting a hire car, and returning at the end of the holiday.

So I'm not sure how to get to any short term car parking.

Are there any directions that can help me?

Thanks, John

Hi John,
As you drive towards the airport, you will see parking signs on the left where there are carparks. Its right opposite the airport terminal.

Coach Crash near Malaga Airport - Coach Crash in Benalmadena

There has been a coach crash near Benalmadena, Malaga tonight. 9 people have been killed and 17 injured so far including a little girl. There were around 44 people on the coach altogether. and it was a Finnish Bus taking passengers back to the airport to fly home.

The driver of a 4 x 4 apparently tried to take over and has also been tested for alcohol which was twice the limit.

The N340 is still such a dangerous road, without bad weather and drunk drivers to add to it.

We will try and keep you informed of the situation.

Malaga Airport to Benalmadena By Train

Hi Jo, my wife and I are coming over to Benalmadena in early May(2008) quite a few years ago we visited Torremolenos & remembered that a train ran between the airport and Feungirola which also stopped at Benalmadena. Could you tell me if this is still the case and if so how often do they run and a rough idea of the cost. We are sprightly pensioners who are trying to keep the cost down as the taxi fares are, I believe quite expensive. If you could provide me with any of this information I would be eternally grateful.
Many thanks,

Bryan

Hi,

Yes there is a train from Malaga Airport that goes all the way to Fuengirola stopping at Benalmadena.

When you come out of the airport the train station is oposite you need to follow the signs.

Its cheap too.

www.renfe.es is the website

Using Mobile Phones on the Aeroplane

Theres going to be no getting away from work!

I find it quite enjoyable getting on a plane or going to certain places where you cannot use Computers or Mobile Phones. Theres not many places, so really its a welcome break not to be able to use them.

All the time, more and more research is done about stress levels and the amount of time we spend on Computers, Mobile Phones etc.

Well its just going to get worse as soon you will be able to use your mobile phone on the aeroplane. Great for you workaholics!

Where can I leave my Luggage in Malaga

Dear Jo,

I fly from UK to Malaga on Sunday 13 April arriving at 10.30 am. I have a friend coming by car from Madrid
to meet me and pick me up, but he wont be there until around 6 pm.
So, as I speak Spanish fluently and am fairly well travelled, my idea was to hang out in the old town, visit
Picasso museum whatever, and meet him later.

My question is: where would be a good meeting place? (Picasso Museum maybe?)
where could I leave my luggage SAFELY? (he mentions a restaurant, but doesnt sound good to me)
I thought I might be able to leave it in a hotel... if so, is there a hotel near there.
Ok, I suppose I am asking you, if you were in my situation, what would you do? I want to be in a nice and safe part of town(he si spanish and suggested the old town, there is a pedestrian area I believe.

Thank you Jo for your help,

I dont really know if hotels will take luggage from someone not staying with them.

There is an El Corte Ingles shop in Malaga, before the city centre. The el corte ingles here in Puerto Banus will hold bags for up to 24 hours...they may do it there too.

you culd always ask in the hotels.

Parking at Malaga Train Station

Hi Jo

We want to take the train from Malaga and leave our car there for three or four days. Is there station parking at Malaga? I can't find a website to tell me! Any info would be useful.
Thanks.
Anne

The train station is right near the airport where there is lots of parking everywhere.

Here is a link to Malaga Airport Parking

Alternatively P3 & P4 were still free to park whilst work is being done.

Regards

Joanne

Sorry, not too sure which Malaga Train Statin you Meant, assumed the Airport.

There is Parking at one of the Main Stations, its quite a lot of money per day. So you could leave it at the airport which is cheaper and get the train into the Station you need.

Hen Night in Velez Malaga

Hi Jo,

I stumbled across your website whilst doing a search and thought you'd be the ideal person to ask a couple of the questions that I have about Malaga!

Myself, my best friend (who's getting married) and 4 other friends are coming to Malaga at the end of May for a long hen weekend. We have booked flights and accommodation already - I'm trying to work out the best way to get from the airport to the hotel, which is in Velez-Malaga (Torre del Mar). Can we get a train from Malaga airport, or should we get a taxi all the way? How much should we expect to pay for a taxi?

My friend doesn't really want any tacky hen-night type things, so I'm looking into other things that she might enjoy doing. Can you reccommend any nice restaurants (classic spanish) or cocktails bars in or around the area we're staying? Are there any tourist attractions or activities that we shouldn't miss?

Thanks,

Jo Martyn

Hi Jo,

Here is a map from Malaga to Velez Malaga. Its about 35 kms. Taxis charge around 1.30 per km.

The taxi can only take up to 4 of you so if there is more then you need 2 taxis. Between 4 of you its not going to be much. I would jump in a taxi and then you get straight there and your holiday starts

Regarding entertaining, Im not too sure, In Malaga City itself its quite a busy place with lots going on but Im not too sure about restaurants etc. Maybe try to find a good forum where you can post a question.

Regards

Joanne

Arriving at Malaga Airport Parking & Disability

Hi Jo I got a parking ticket last time I left my elderly parents (one of whom is disabled ) at Departures at Malaga airport. I had to carry their luggage in and check them through. I was only(interestingly) about 10 mins doing this so Check-in worked very well and The Airline was great. The difficulty is at the drop-off point or collection point. All attempts to explain in Spanish my difficulty were rebuffed, sadly. How do I prevent this happening again? Is there a special drop off point or collection point for Disabled passengers where a car can be left to either collect the passengers or leave them off and assist with their luggage? Thanks F

Hi Fionn,
At the moment with all the work going on its quite manic around the entrances and exits. Im sure there is disabled parking at the departures hall upstairs. You may find this useful...a previous write up about parking & disability arriving at the airport.

We really do rely on all information that people provide regarding disability at Malaga. I hope this helps
