Attack at Malaga Airport

On Monday 5th October a member of the public overpowered a 58 year old Moroccan man who was threatening a female member of staff at Malaga Airport with a large knife. The hero of the hour disarmed and restrained the attacker until two police officers arrived and took into custody.

According to witnesses the man entered a travel agency demanding that the staff do something about a flight to Montreal he missed two weeks ago. When the female attendant informed him that it would cost him €200 euros for this to be done he took out a knife and held it to her throat.

Roman remains discovered during works on Málaga's new Thyssen Museum

The new Thyssen museum currently under construction in Málaga city centre will incorporate some Roman archaeological remains which have been found behind the 16th century Palacio de Villalón which is the building which will form the main part of the future gallery.

The construction project has had to be altered following their discovery, and the basement which was due to be dug has been removed from the plans.

The foundations are now due for completion by the end of September and work will then begin on the structure of the museum, which is due for completion in autumn 2010. The museum complex will cover an area of more than 7,000 square metres and has a budget €11 million. It is just a 20 minute journey from Malaga Airport.

Baroness Thyssen has confirmed that the new museum will house works by artists including Sorolla, Zubarán, Zuloaga and Regoyos under an agreement to lend the works to Málaga until 2025.
