Nearest Airport to Nerja

Dear Jo

I have just found your blog website. I am trying to plan a trip to Nerja for my 40th (boo) birthday in August.

Is Malaga the best airport to fly to for Nerja before I start searching?

If you could help, I would be most grateful,

Many thanks

Janine

My Reply...

Hi Janine,

Malaga Airport is the nearest Airport to Nerja at about 70 kms away.

However, you could also go to Granada, which is a little further at about 120km

There is no train in Nerja from what I know of so you would either be reliant on Taxi, Bus or Car Hire.

Car Hire would probably work out pretty cheap, even if you only used it to get to and from the airport and it will cost at least 80euros each way I think. You could get a quote here

You may find really cheap flights to Granada with Ryanair but then it is a little further. So what you save on one, you may loose on another.

Have a good time.

Malaga Airport to Miraflores

Good morning we have a group of 11 people arriving in Malaga air port on Saturday 21 july at approx 10.30. is there a bus that takes you to miraflores in riveria del sol. Thank you Lee Atkinson.

My Reply...

There is the Airport Bus that is 45 mins to Marbella Bus Station costs around 4euros. But then you would need to to change bus and go back on yourself or get taxi.

Or Could get the train from Airport to Fuengirola and get a bus froom there. Fuengirola is the furthest the train goes

You could also look at getting a transfer for everyone from Malaga Airport.

Getting around past Fuengirola is quite difficult as we can only rely on buses.

I hopt this helps

Hiring Mobile Phones in Spain

Hello,

Can you kindly tell me if it is possible, or how to go about, renting a portable phone during my 20 days stay in Malaga. Also, how far is Benajarafe from Malaga airport?

Kind regards,

Rachad

Im not too sure about renting mobile phones.

However, you can go and buy a sim card pay as you go and put this into your own phone if its not lockd. You can then top up in certain shops and cash points.

Buggies at Malaga Airport

Dear Sir/Madam

Could you please be so kind as to let me know how I can go about booking an Airport buggie for use after arrival at the Aiport to be used to get us from the flight arrival area to the Car Hire part of the Airport. We will require it for two people who walk with sticks together with two travelling with us.

I look forward to a favourable reply as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully

Hi Marylyn
There are lots of questions very similar on the message board.

This is one of those things where the airline say its down to the airport and vise versa. however when you leave a plane normally there are buggies there waiting for people who need it.

Best to tell your airline though and also the air steward on the plane just before landing.

I hope all goes ok and sorry we cannot help further.

Just so you know we are not the airprot.

Malaga to South of France

Hi Jo,great blog, real help to so many peopleWife & I coming from Uk to attend wedding in Marbella,so inward flight,.car& hotel booked from 5 to 12 Sept, thereafter would like to go on to tourSouth of France,Aix en Provence area.Seems difficult to get directflight, any tips like coach service, boats.

Regards Bob

My Reply...

Hi Robert,
It is difficult to get to direct.

When we first moved here we actually drove all the way to near Perpignan. We took 2 days to get there and about 6 days back as we just kept stopping along the way.

However, if you dont want to drive the whole way....

You could fly to Barcelona with one of the numerous airlines that fly every day and then get a train down to France (I think)! Or you could pick up a car from barcelona and drive...its only about 1.5 to 2 hours to france

I hope this helps,
Have a great trip, be great to hear how you got on.

Distance from Baggage Collection to Arrivals Hall Malaga Airport

Hi there,
My wife and I will be flying to Malaga at the end of July, she is disabled
and can only walk a few yards (or metres if you prefer) without assistance.
My concern is the distance she will have to walk from baggage collection
(where I believe wheelchairs/buggies stop), to the main reception hall where
our family will be waiting with a wheelchair. If the distance is
considerable I may have to consider bringing our own wheelchair on the
aeroplane to manage this part.
I do appreciate the assistance you publish on the net it was a great help.
Our airline (Globespan) have been very helpful but were unable to offer us
any help or advice when leaving the baggage collection area.
Regards,

John Linale

Hi John
Where luggage collection is to the arrivals hall isnt far at all about 20 meters although this may be far for your wife. The long distance is from the airplane to the baggage collection.

I hope this helps and im pleased that our information on Malaga Airport Guide has been of use. We are really trying our best to give more information for people with disabilities, but we can only rely on people giving us their real feed back.

Any information you think could help others after your journey would be appreciated.

Have a good holiday

Malaga Airport to Sabanillas

HI,

WE ARE TRAVELLING FROM MALAGA AIRPORT TO SABINILLAS, CAN YOU HELP WITH BUS TIMETABLES AND HOW LONG THE JOURNEY IS. AS WE DONT SPEAK SPANISH.

THANKS

JOE & CONNIE

There is a bus from Malaga Airport that goes straight to Marbella Bus Station. From here you will need to change and get a bus to Sabinillas.

Here is the page with times of the airport bus

Then here are the buses for The Costa Del Sol

Once at the Bus station, best to ask for Sabanillas. You may have to go to Estepona and then then change again. There is no train system here.

From Malaga Aiprort to Marbella is 45 minutes. Then to drive by car from Marbella to Sabanillas is about 40 mins but obviously longer by bus.

Make sure you have everything written down correctly then you can show it to the people at the bus station.

Malaga Airport to Morocco on a Budget

Hi Jo,I have just visited your site and it is of fantastic help!! I am still in a bit of a pickle though. I have booked flights to Malaga to leave this Friday (22nd) in order to go to Algeciras and get a connecting boat to Morroco. However, my flight arrives at 01.10 in the morning to Malaga and I am unaware of how to get to Morroco (possibly tangier), added to that I have very little money. Would you have any suggestions on what buses and ferries to take and general times? I would be extremely grateful!!!Many thanks,
Fiona

Hi Fiona

Here are Malaga Buses and you can go Malaga City to Algeciras, but not late at night.

Here are more buses .
http://www.ctsa-portillo.com/horarios.html

You can get from either Malaga Airport to Malaga City and then get a bus direct to Algeciras.

Or you catch the fast bus from Malaga Airport straight to Marbella Bus Station and then change there.

So you can go Aeropuerto - Marbella, then Marbella to Algecias. The first airport bus is cheap 4euros and generally most buses are.

However, the buses stop late afternoon early evening, so if your flight arrives in the early hours then you may have to stay over in a hotel. The Ibis is the nearest.

I hope this helps, would be great to hear how you got on. Check out more blogs searches about travelling.

Malaga Airport to Cabopino

Hi Jo,

I will be arriving at about 9pm tonight, so what is the best way to get from Malagea Airport to Cabopino (camping) by public transport. Please give an indication last trains/buses incase of flight delays.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Robert
Sorry i did not get to answer your question in time.

I hope you got on ok.

But the trains from Malaga Airport to Fuengirola take around 35 minutes. The last train generally is around 22.44, depends on days.

Then from Fuengirola which is the last stop on the train, you would have need to get a bus to Cabopino I guess or a cab.

I hope all went ok and if you have any informatin you think could be of use to other travellers, please let us know so we can put it up on the message board.

Kind regards

There isnt, unless if maybe you go to Malaga City.

Best to get the fast airport bus to Marbella Bus Station and then change there. Although it may be 2 more buses.

The transport system passed Fuengirola isnt very good, no trains.

Malaga Airport to Mijas Costa

Hi Jo

Just came across your web-site and was hoping for some advice. I saw your reply about getting to Mijas Pueblo or Costa, im going to Mijas Costa. It’s the Grangefield oasis apartments and it’s about a km from Miraflores Golf Academy.

I was going to get a train into Fuengirola from airport but unsure if it’s worth getting a taxi from there to apartment or a bus. Im unsure how far the journey would be and how expensive. We arrive in Malaga about 2pm week Saturday.

Kind regards

My Reply...

If on a budget, then I would get a train from Malaga Airport to Fuengirola. Takes around 30 minutes and costs just a few euros.

I dont know exactly where you are staying, but I personally would then get in a taxi from fuengirola station to take me to the final destination. We normally work on 1euro per km plus a couple extra. The taxis do have a book chart with prices in for you to check.

I hope this helps.

Wheelchair Assistance at Malaga Airport

Hi Jo,
Can you tell me the procedure at Malaga airport when a disabled person
is on a departure flight from the airport.
He is flying with Monarch 19th June flight ZB125 and he requires wheelchair
assistance.he is recently disabled and has not received his personal wheelchair to date.

With Regards
George Bain

My Reply...

When the plane lands, generally at Malaga there are people waiting with the buggies to take disabled people to collect bags.

On the approach to landing, it could be a good idea for him to mention to the airsteward that a buggy is needed.

I hope this helps

Malaga Airport - More Flights and Places to Fly

Summer is here as the airlines provide more flights to cater for the many people flocking here on the Costa Del Sol.

Malaga is still the favourite Costa Del Sol airport, although more and more people are experimenting with Jerez Airport, Seville and Granada and driving down to the Costa Del Sol.

A great article is here written by the Sur in English about a wider variety of places to fly from Malaga Airport direct.

Malaga Airport is still undergoing lots of works but hopefully in the future it will all be worth it.

There is the fast bus from the Malaga airport to marbella bus station which then you could get a bus from to Calahonda.

Or you culd get the train from Malaga Airport to the last stop at Fuengirola and get a bus.

Or from Malaga Bus Station I think you can get a bus to Calahonda.

Hiring buggies in Malaga Airport

I will be travelling to Malaga on 4 July with Jet2 and know from previous experience that it is a long walk from the aeroplane to baggage reclaim, but I have seen a type of "golf buggy" which transports people this distance. I, and one or my travelling companions are disabled and whilst we don't need wheelchair assistance we find the distance we have to walk very difficult to cope with. I am not sure if this form of transport is provided by the airport, or whether it has to be paid for, but in either event I should be pleased if you would tell me how we can book this type of assistance for our arrival and departure on the 18 July

Gracias Leah Corboz

Hi,
Genereally when you leave the plane, these buggies are their waiting and they are free. So if you need one you just have to ask...maybe act a little more as if you really really need it.

I have even seen people slip them a fiver.

You could mention it to the air staaff so they can make sure that buggies are there.

i know it is a long walk and have done it carrying my baby.

Air Cargo from Malaga

Hi, I am moving back to Aberdeen Scotland from nr Mijas Costa, Malaga, Spain.I have had some quotes from removal companies and they are charging an extortionate amount as I am going so far north in the UK. I only have 2 cubic metres !! Someone did suggest that Air Cargo might be a cheaper alternative, but I am unable to find out more information on this. I have about 20 boxes of average size - say crisp box size. Do you have detailes on who I can contact for quotes? L Bates

Hi Lisa
Im sorry, I really dont know. We brought a whole load of stuff over about 5 cubic metres cost us 500 quid. At the time I thought it wasnt too bad but when it got here realised that I didnt like any of the stuff anymore and basically binned it.

Waste of money.

Why not have a look on www.britishexpats.com they are generally really helpfull if you post a question.

Lost Property Office at Malaga Airport

Hi Jo

I wonder if you can give me some advice, please.

In April when I arrived at Malaga, I dropped a cardigan/jacket somewhere in the arrivals building. I have tried to ring the Lost Property department, but unfortunately my Spanish doesn't stretch to a full conversation - yet!

Do you know the opening hours for Lost Property? I travel out to Malaga again tomorrow and wonder if I could call in, in person in an attempt to try to recover my lost item.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Best wishes,
Carol Scott

HI Carol,
I dont know the Lost property Office Opening hours but would think that they would be open at least from 10am to 8 or 9pm if not longer. The lost property Office is on the top floor in Reception.

Rincon Andaluz Hotel, Puerto Banus

Jo

Good morning. I hope you can help me.

Next week I am staying in the Rincon Andaluz Hotel, Carretera De Cadiz 173km, Marbella.

I cannot find a website for them that gives directions from Malaga airport to the hotel by car. Can you suggest a website or attach directions to a return email?

Thank you in anticipation.

Irene Liddle

Hi Irene,

Its on the N340 just kind of Past Puerto Banus. So continue on the N340 pass Nueva Andlaucia, Puerto Banus (big El Corte Ingles Sign on the left) going towards San Pedro. As you drive from Puerto Banus to San Pedro, Rio Rincon is on your left so you need to go up to the next roundabout and come back onyourself.

I hope this is clear.

Faulty Perfume bought at Malaga Airport

Hello I flew home on the delayed flight to Newcastle on Saturday 2nd June departing Malaga at 13:00hrs. I purchased some perfume from your duty free shop Aldesasa. However when I unpacked my handluggage the perfume is still sealed but leaked everywhere and when you shake the bottle there is no perfume in there - the bag and receipt was wet and sticky with all the perfume that leaked. I do have the receipt however it is blank as the perfume has spilt on the receipt and has wiped all the print clean, however the receipt smells lovely of the perfume, however it would have been even nicer had it not have been wasted in the bag. It was Jean Paul Gaultier, Classique, Eau De Toilette. Purchased on my credit card in sterling Transaction would have been between approx 12-1.00pm on Saturday 2nd June. Please tell me how to rectify this matter.

Thank you.
