Duty Free after Arrivals at Malaga Airport

Hello Jo!

Can we buy tax free after landing at Malaga Airport coming from Oslo, Norway (non-EU)?

T

My Reply...

Hi Tom,

There are no duty free shops once you land at Malaga Airport. So buy before or on the plane.

You can however claim back the tax from shops like El Corte Ingles.

Bringing Pets to Spain

Hola

I am moving to Spain in January 2007 and I want to know :-

" Where I need to go to pick up my Dog when it arrives at Malaga Airport?"
It is travelling on the same plane as myself.

I await your urgent reply

Gracias

W.

My reply...

Dear W,

A friend of mine who brought her cats over has emailed me the following.

Pet transport is a minefield! It depends on where you are flying in from. For example, if you are coming from Gatwick then only Monarch and British Airways will transport the animals and then only on certain flights (which tend to be a couple mid week) because they need to be on aircraft which have a special area between the passenger section and hold.

Also the airline will not necessarily guarantee that your pet will travel on the same flight and will probably ask you to check with the carrier. I had to do this and then they took 24 hours to get back to me. The person concerned needs to check with the airline they are using - www.ba.com is the best and this website has some pretty detailed information on transporting pets abroad like size and approved carrier type, etc.

When I brought my cats over from the UK they were checked in with me at the normal check in desk then taken away to the vet centre until they were ready to board. At Malaga they are meant to be left at cargo for you to collect, but mine were put on the luggage carousel in the arrivals hall! My friend who is taking her cats back to the UK has been told that she has to take her cat to cargo when she checks in so maybe the system has improved since I arrived.

So the short answer to your question is that it is up to the owner to make sure the airline carrier can accommodate the pet and book it on because the agents will not guarantee it. And the dog should be collected from the cargo section at Malaga but they should double check with the staff when they arrive here.

La Linea

Hi Jo,

I was just browsing your site and I liked what I saw.

Although I'm English I now live in Bermuda, I had family in La Linea years ago, in fact I haven't been there in over 20 years.

I can see there has been a lot of development. We were planning on taking a trip there in the summer next year, now that my girls are learning Spanish in school and my wife has heard me talk about the region.

My question is, we would like to stay in the La Linea area and not too far up the coast. Can you recommend a nice hotel to stay at. We are used to the higher end rooms and do not want to stay in a budget hotel. I have looked on the net and they all seem to be the same. What can you recommend.

Kindest regards,

P

Hi P

I dont know that area very well to be honest,

However, there is The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar. But the other day my husband had a meeting with someone in a new hotel in La Linea. He said it was quite nice, like a Holiday Inn Hotel . Iberostar La Linea

I hope this helps and you have a nice time.

Key Holding at Malaga Airport

Hi Jo
I need to arrange to leave a key for my sister to pick up at Malaga airport tomorrow evening so that she can get into my house.

Unfortunately i cannot meet her at the airport but my boyfriend is flying back to the UK tomorrow from Malaga in the morning and he can take the key with him.

Unfortunately their flight times do not overlap so he will need to leave the key somewhere for her to collect.

She is flying in tomorrow and will be hiring a car. Is there an information desk that could hold the key during the day? Or would it be better to leave the key at the car hire place?

If so, can you actually access the car hire place from the departure area or can you only access this from the arrivals area at Malaga?

Alternatively can you suggest an alternative solution? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

A

Hi A

I have received many emails on this subject...people exchanging homes, needing to leave keys somewhere.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge there is nowhere that I know of or anyone wishing to do this.
The best bet would be to try and ask the Car Hire Company, although, in the past they havent been too helpful.

From memory, although they are doing a lot of work at the airport at the moment. You can get to the Car Hire, but you need to get there through the car park underneath arrivals.

Is there anywhere near you where your sister could pick the key up from. A concierge in a hotel near by, restaurant you know or something?

If you do find somewhere, please let me know as we are asked this frequently.

Lost Property & Insurance Claim

Hi Jo,

I lost my Leather Jacket in the Restaurant area of Malaga Airport on Sunday night 3rd December 2006.

I was advised to contact the Lost Property Department the next day at Malaga Airport to see if anyone had found it. Unfortunately it has not been found.

However I am covered on my insurance, but need some documentation confirming the loss.

Thank you
A

Malaga to Marbella & Trips to Gibraltar & Morocco

Hello,

I got your email from a search on the internet about Malaga travel.

I'm planning on traveling to Marbella next Spring.

I want to take day trips to Gibraltar and possibly Morocco. Is that possible in one day?

Also, from Malaga, what's the best way to get to Marbella. Is there a train or is a car better? What about from Malaga to Grenada....is there a train or is a car better?

Thanks. I really appreciate any help or advice from you.

Hi Grace,

1. From Malaga to Marbella...there is a bus that goes to Marbella Bus Station for around 4€. from here you will need to get either a bus or taxi to where you are staying. Or you could get an Malaga Airport Transfer. Trains stop at Fuengirola.
A Malaga Taxi will cost you around 65€

Sometimes to Hire a car costs not much more than a taxi from and to the airport. If you want to go to Morrocco and Gibraltar I would hire a car-
2. From Marbella to Gibraltar is around 1 hour drive. You can read more on this link.

3. To get to morocco, you can get a boat from Tarifa which is around 30 minutes passed Gibraltar. You can take to car on I think if you wish.

As you want to do a bit of travelling I think Hiring a car would be best. I think it may be a bit too much to do both Gibraltar and Morocco in the same day. Gibraltar isnt big, but the caves and monkeys at the top of the Rock are great to see.

I hope this is of use
