Car Hire at Malaga & things to do

my daughter and i are coming to marbella week following easter.

will probably arrive easter sunday. we're going to stay in the area for a week....may venture to seville, granada, ronda for day trips. do you recommend renting a car for the week or getting around by bus or taxi. i've read on websites that parking is sometimes a problem. if you recommend a car rental, should i arrange for that before the trip or just go to one of the car rental booths in malaga airport when i arrive? when we fly home, we will leave malaga early in the morning. will rental places be open to receive a car at 6am?love your website.also ideas for best things to do in the area week following easter?

thanks.

My Reply...

Hi,
Sound like you are going to be busy.

I personally would hire a car. The trains from Malaga only go as far as Fuengirola. So you only have buses & coaches, which are good, but it will take time to get anywhere.

I think it is better to book a car before you go...asap is normally cheaper. Check out here for a quote

Also try www.carrentals.co.uk Some are open early, they only allow you to put certain times in so shop around.

If you go to Seville, it may be best to park up and leave car in one of the numerous car parks and walk around and catch taxis.

Grananda, you should have a look at Alahambra, old gardens & city.

Ronda is around a 45 minute journey up a mountain from Marbella, also very nice to see.

Istan is only 25 minutes from Puerto Banus and also nice to see a old Spanish Village.

Laguna Village is one of the new places to go for a drink / food. There may also be some easter processions for Semana Santa

If you like Sherry, go to Jerez, the home of Sherry. A lovely little city on the way to Seville.

With a car you wont be bored, theres so much to see.

Have a good time

Hiring pushchairs at Malaga Airport

Dear Malaga Airport
I'll be arriving Malaga airport with Sterling Airways 3 February and departing again on 10 February 2007 with a 6 months old baby, and I was wondering if it was possible to rent a pushchair/stroller in the airport, and if so - if the pushchair/stroller can be used all the way out to the plane? If it is not possible to rent a puschchair/stroller is it then possible to bring my own pushchair/stroller through security and to be used all the way out to the plane, so I won't be neccessary for me to carry my baby around after check-in.Alson - is there any "changing-facilities" for babies in the airport?

Thank you very much for your time.

Best regards,
Line

My Reply...

Hi,
As far as I know you cannot hire pushchairs.

however you can keep it right up until you board the plane. At check in they give you stickers to put on your pushchair. Make sure you remove hoods and plastic covers as generally these get broken.

Depending on who you fly with, they may make you wait for your pushchair the other end until it comes out with your luggage. If you speak to someone when you leave the plane you may get it there and then.. If you dont ask you dont get.

There are toilets all over the Airport and some do have baby changing facilitiies.

Hope this helps

Buggies at Malaga Airport

My husband is experiencing difficulty walking distances. Can you advise me if the motorised transporters which take passengers to the Passport control on arrival have to be booked in advance or do we just get on one as it becomes available?

We are staying in Maro about 4 kms past Nerja. Can you give me an idea of the cost of a taxi?

Thank you

Aileen Toft-McNamee

My Reply...

Hi,
Everytime we have every landed at Malaga Aiport there are always the buggies to help people that need it.

Just before landing, maybe mention it to oneof the Stewards, but I am 99% certain that there will be a buggy there and if they are occupied they will just call for someone else.

Re a taxi, we normally work on 1euro per km.

Lockers at Malaga Airport

Hello, Jo

We will be visiting Malaga and, on the day of our return flight, plan to drop our rental car at the airport and take a bus into Malaga for the day. We have a late flight home. Are there any lockers or other means of securing our luggage at the airport for the day (a Sunday), so we can go into the city unencumbered?

Thanks and Regards,

Neil

My Reply...

This is a common question.
Im afraid that there are no lockers at Malaga Airport. You may be better keeping your car and keeping the suitcases in the boot so you can go out.

Malaga airport has broken its own record for passenger numbers last year with a total of 13 million 76,252. The number is 3.2% higher than that seen in 2005, according to AENA, the Spanish Airports Authority.

Most of the international passengers were British, more than 5 million of them, followed by 1 million 147,000 Germans and close to 600,000 Irish.

There were 127,769 take offs over the year, 3.1% up on 2005. Over five million kilos of cargo was carried and the post weighed more than a million kilos.

Nationally a total of 193.2 million passengers used Spain’s airports last year.

Taxi from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos

me and my friends are flying to malaga airport the end of this month andstaying in Torromilinos.

I was wondering if you could advice me about theapproximate cost of a taxi to our resort and possibly a reliable taxicompany to look out for. (There wil be four of us.)

Many thanks

My Reply...

Hi Hannah

The taxis are situated outside the arrivals hall. All are colour white and should have an SP plate at the back. This means they are licensed.

A taxi journey from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos will be around 20€ . They take up to 4 people but if they cant fit your luggage in then you may have to take 2 taxis.

Joanne

Bicycle Box at Malaga Airport

Dear Mr / Mrs

We would like to travel this summer to Spain to make a bicycle tour through andalusia.

We want to start and end at Malaga airport.

Is it possible to store the box at the airport? We need the box to pack our bicycle for transport in the airplane.Or is there a possibility to buy a new box at Malaga airport.

If it is possible what is the price and the location where I can buy it.

Thank for the response,

I

My Reply...

There is no box or store place at Malaga Airport im afraid. You can call the airport to see if there is anything else you can do or by looking at www.aena.es then choosing Malaga Airport.

Ikea in Malaga

hi jo

recently you said that ikea was opening in malaga after christmas. can you tell me if this has now opened as our house could do with some modern furniture and pictures!
thanks

j

My Reply...

I found on Ikea website its due to open August 2007.
Ikea New Stores

There is one in Seville, if desperate! there is also someone that drives there for you, buys the stuff and brings it back.

If you want big things, like kitchen etc, you can go there and order it and they deliver.

Alternatively, there is Habitat in La Canada Shopping Centre Marbella. It is a little more expensive, but very nice quality. I also found some really cheap places in a new shopping precinct near Malaga Industrial Centre.

Hope this helps.

Faulty Goods from Duty Free Malaga

Dear Jo
I flew on an Easyjet flight from Malaga Airport on January 4th to NottinghamEast Midlands. En route I purchased costume jewellery in the Duty Freeshop. When I took the goods off the display card the earrings fell apart, can you tell me what route to take to endeavour to get these changed, Iwould prefer not to have a refund.

Kind regards

T

My Reply...

I think first thing is to call Easy Jet. I have been on the website and looked through all the FAQs. I cant find your question, so you need to go to "Still Stuck"? and fill in your details and query.

They say they should reply with x amount of days....Im still waiting for a reply since November, so I wouldnt hold your breath....but this is the only way or to call them and hold.

Sorry cant be more help. If you do get an exchange it would be lovely to hear from you so I can inform others.

T Reply...

Dear Joanne

Many thanks for your reply, although I think I may have confused you. I actually purchased the goods from the Duty Free shop within Malaga Airport, not from the Easy Jet cabin crew.

Does this now help you to put me on the right tracks, the name on the carrier bag the goods were put into is Aldeasa. There is are telephone numbers on the back of their receipts, but having tried to call from the UK a recorded message is telling me the number has not been recognised, these numbers are 900 25 24 23 for Customer Service and (34) 914 367 069 if calling from outside Spain.

I have scanned the reverse side of the receipt and attached it for you to look at.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Kind Regards

My Reply...

Ok

Here is the link to the main Spanish Airport Website and the Aldesa Shop at Malaga Airport here

Telephone numbers are 0034 952 048 458 Fax 0034 952 048 459

If you cant get through by phone it could be worth sending a fax.

Alternatively, the main number for all spanish switch boards is 902 404 704 who could also put you through to the correct department.

Hope this helps

Hotels near Malaga Airport

Hi,
Me and my family, four adults and one child at 10, arrives at Malaga airport on April 1 at 00:25. I understand that the car rental is closed by then. Is there an airport hotel or the like on the site, so that we can check in for the rest of the night?

My Reply...

Hi,

The nearest hotel is a short taxi journey away and is the IBIS, near Malaga Airport. Unfortunately the website seems to be down at the moment but think it is www.ibis.com

Or you could go a little further and stay right in Malaga City where there are numerous hotels. Malaga City is really quite nice with lots of things to see.
Hope this helps

Traveling through Malaga Airport

I have a message I'd like to reach as many travellers as possible:

I've just returned from Malaga Airport - the security guards now ask you to empty your pockets when you go through the security check gates.

I foolishly did so and put my money in the tray provided, some went missing. Very craftily done, just two 20 euro notes out of six. Needless to say, by the time I noticed I couldn't even say which of the seven or eight men it was so to complain would have been totally pointless but I feel people should be warned - keepyour notes in your pocket !!

My Reply...

Thank you for letting us know. Hopefully it will help other people.
