How to get to Gibraltar from Malaga Airport

Hi there i have been looking for a flight to gibraltar from the east midlands but im looking at about £1300, can i land at Malaga and get a train or taxi in to gibraltar. many thanks bilps how much am i looking at for both train and taxi

Hi,You can get a taxi all the way to Gibraltar, it will cost a bit though. Alternatively you could take the airport bus to Marbella Bus Station 45 minutes 4.03€uros. Then change for the bus to La Linea but then you may need another bus to Gibraltar border. Alternatively you could also fly into Jerez Airport which is only about 1 hour away. Ryanair fly Jerez if this is any use.

Los Angeles to Malaga Flights

Hello:
I saw your e-mail on a blog. I am trying to find the best way to get to Fuengirola from Los Angeles - swimming is an option. We have 2 young children. Would Los Angeles- Madrid by plane, then Madrid Fuengirola by train be better than Los Angeles- London followed by London Malaga?
If you have any ideas, I would be happy to hear from you. Thank you.
Mircea

Hi, Fuengirola is an area about 25 minutes from Malaga Airport. So if you get to Madrid, you can either fly to Malaga Airport or get the Train. You would get the train to Malaga City and then change for a local line to Fuengirola. www.renfe.es I hope this helps. Delta airlines fly direct to Malaga from New York if this is any use to you. Flybe Exeter to Malaga

A couple of weeks ago we flew with Flybe from Malaga to Exeter. Parked in P3 for free!

Had a bit of a queue at check in as we were a little late. Went through security fine..no probs. Looked around the shops for a bit and then went through to passport control and there was a HUGE queue. Everyone was complaining and it did seem to take ages. Just 1 guy was on. I think we queued up for 15 minutes for passports.

Finally got through and boarded the plane. Staff on board Flybe were really nice and polite. Flight was very comfortable.

We arrived back on Saturday and for some reason landed in Terminal 1 which was a little strange. The airport did seem quite busy but it may also be to do with works going on. So if you land somewhere which doesnt look familiar...it could be Terminal 1!

New Rules for flying to Spain by Monarch

This is the information from Monarch Website regarding the information needed when flying to spain.

www.flymonarch.com

19/09/2007
Travelling to Spain? Monarch passenger information collected at airport, no need to call
After a tentative launch in June 2007, the Spanish authorities are now (from 19th September 2007) fully implementing entry procedures, similar to those used in the US. All passengers travelling on flights to Spain are required to provide additional information prior to their flight. All passengers are required to provide their full given names, surnames, nationality, date of birth and travel document number (passport or ID card number) when checking in for their flight. This process is entirely handled at the airport, requiring the check-in agent to swipe the passport through a computer.Monarch have been successfully collecting and sending live APIS data for all passengers travelling on Monarch’s Spanish flights since June 2007, with no disruption being caused to passengers or an increased check-in queues. Please check-in as normal, all data is collected at the airport so there is no need to contact Monarch prior to travel.Passengers booked on scheduled flights who wish to use online check-in will be able to provide their data at the 'fast bag-drop' desk or at the departure gate. Passengers travelling from Manchester Airport and wishing to check-in using the CUSS (Common User Self Service) check-in kiosks, will be prompted to swipe their own passports as part of the check-in process.

Maps from Jerez to Benalmadena, Seville & Granada

Hi Jo

I have no idea how I ended up on your site - but it makes great reading.

I wondered in you could advise me roughly how far in distance ie km Jerez or Seville is from Benalmadena?
I am coming over for the new year but the flights to Malaga seem a bit expensive in comparison to the other two airports. We would be hiring a car anyway so that is not a problem. Also what is the weather likely to be like?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give a numpty like me!
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

www.googlemaps.com is a fantastic website for maps.

Here are 3 maps

This is Jerez to Benalmadena 206 km

Here is Seville to Benalmadena 233 km

And here is Granada Airport to BENALMADENA 135KM

There is also Gibraltar Airport you could fly to too.

Malaga or Granada are the closest airports to Benalmadena.

I hope this is useful to you

Airports for Marbella - Jerez, Seville, Malaga & Gibraltar

Hello Jo,

I hope you do not mind me asking you, but your website is great and I need help - so here goes!

We are hoping to stay at marriott Marbella beach in October half term with our 2 boys. We need fly from Stansted and have two options as I see it - fly with easyjet (£1000) to Malaga, or to Seville (much less!) with ryanair. What would travel time to resort be from Seville? Is there any other option or airport nearer please?

Kind regards,

Louise French
Ipswich (rainy)

Hi, Try Jerez

Ryanair fly stanstead to Jerez. Jerez is about 90 minute drive, you will have to hire a car though!

But if you go to Malaga you will either have to hire a car, get a taxi that will cost around 60-70 euros each way or get buses! So it could be swings and round abouts.

Heres more infomration about Jerez its a lovely city so you could even maybe stay there 1 night...famous for its sherry.

I hope this helps....

Thank you Jo! I look at flights today, we were planning hire car anyway, think the fact it half term and a weekend not helping me!!
Hope weather there nicer for you than we have here!
Is great that you so happy to share your love of Spain with everyone, thanks again,
Louise : )

Nearest Airport to Nerja

Dear Jo

I have just found your blog website. I am trying to plan a trip to Nerja for my 40th (boo) birthday in August.

Is Malaga the best airport to fly to for Nerja before I start searching?

If you could help, I would be most grateful,

Many thanks

Janine

My Reply...

Hi Janine,

Malaga Airport is the nearest Airport to Nerja at about 70 kms away.

However, you could also go to Granada, which is a little further at about 120km

There is no train in Nerja from what I know of so you would either be reliant on Taxi, Bus or Car Hire.

Car Hire would probably work out pretty cheap, even if you only used it to get to and from the airport and it will cost at least 80euros each way I think. You could get a quote here

You may find really cheap flights to Granada with Ryanair but then it is a little further. So what you save on one, you may loose on another.

Have a good time.

Malaga to South of France

Hi Jo,great blog, real help to so many peopleWife & I coming from Uk to attend wedding in Marbella,so inward flight,.car& hotel booked from 5 to 12 Sept, thereafter would like to go on to tourSouth of France,Aix en Provence area.Seems difficult to get directflight, any tips like coach service, boats.

Regards Bob

My Reply...

Hi Robert,
It is difficult to get to direct.

When we first moved here we actually drove all the way to near Perpignan. We took 2 days to get there and about 6 days back as we just kept stopping along the way.

However, if you dont want to drive the whole way....

You could fly to Barcelona with one of the numerous airlines that fly every day and then get a train down to France (I think)! Or you could pick up a car from barcelona and drive...its only about 1.5 to 2 hours to france

I hope this helps,
Have a great trip, be great to hear how you got on.

Malaga Airport - More Flights and Places to Fly

Summer is here as the airlines provide more flights to cater for the many people flocking here on the Costa Del Sol.

Malaga is still the favourite Costa Del Sol airport, although more and more people are experimenting with Jerez Airport, Seville and Granada and driving down to the Costa Del Sol.

A great article is here written by the Sur in English about a wider variety of places to fly from Malaga Airport direct.

Malaga Airport is still undergoing lots of works but hopefully in the future it will all be worth it.

Travelling at Christmas through Spain

Hi Jo,
I got your email address from Malaga Airport Website.

I am a student and will be in Southern Spain for few days during this Christmas. Although I planned to travel many places in that area, lack of time and money will make it a short one. I am flying to Malaga on 24th December and next day I plan to head to Seville and then to Madrid few days later to catch a flight back.

I am not sure how travelling on Christmas Day will be like, do you know if there be any train or buses available that day? Or if I need to book early?Ok then, I apologise if I am bothering you too much.

Best regards,
M

My Reply...

Hi M
In all honesty, Im not too sure exactly what travelling is like at Christmas. January 6th is a big day here, being 3 kings day.

Below are links to all transportation from Malaga. All websites are pretty good and are in English and Spanish.

Have a look and if you cannot find what you are looking for, just give them a call. Generally, the people are very helpful and speak good English, if you dont speak Spanish.

Have a lovely time.

Latest EasyJet Flight Information

Easyjet have just sent out this newsletter to all people on their mailing list. We hope this is of use to some of you.

Friday 11 August

Saturday 12 August: easyJet business as usual

easyJet intends to operate a full flying programme on Saturday 12
August 2006 as the situation at airports across the UK returns to
normal, albeit with increased security measures in place.

However, passengers are advised to check in as early as possible -
easyJet check-in desks are opening three hours prior to the scheduled
departure time of the flight, and will close promptly 40 minutes
prior. In our experience intensified security checks will lengthen the
time between check-in and boarding so we advise passengers to plan to
check-in as early as possible.

Passengers and cabin baggage

The following arrangements apply to all passengers starting their
journey at a UK airport and to those transferring between flights at a
UK airport.

With immediate effect all cabin baggage must be processed as hold
baggage and carried in the hold of the aircraft. To minimise the
inconvenience this may cause, we are temporarily increasing our hold
baggage allowance from 20kg to 25kg per person.

All passengers will be hand searched, as well as their footwear and
all of the items they are carrying will be x-ray screened.

Passengers may take through the airport security search point, in a
single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, only the following
items.

Nothing may be carried in pockets:

* pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for
example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags));

* travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports
and travel tickets);

* prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential
for the flight (eg, diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless
verified as authentic.

* spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.

* contact lens holders, without bottles of solution.

* for those traveling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of
each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary
items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams
and nappy disposal bags).

* female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if
unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes).

* tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs

* keys (but no electrical key fobs)

Malaga Airport Update

11/08/2006
It looks like most flights are back on today, expect delays and seperate your hand luggage before you get to the airport, just keep your essential items with you.

Also in most of the UK airports only people with actual tickets are being allowed into the airport terminals.

I can't find out much about whats happening at Malaga Airport but if you are flying from Malaga to the UK expect delays and expect to travel with limited hand luggage.
