What the Weather is really like

We have lived here for over 7 years and the weather in Malaga is great. It does rain and when it rains it buckets down, but this does not happen very often compared with Northern Europe and the UK.

The weather report above is for Malaga Airport so you may find there is a slight variation if you are staying in Marbella which is between 50 and 70 kms away.

In the years that we have lived here we have realized that the worst weather in Malaga seems to be in October and April, but this is because of the rain, not temperature.

Last year summer seemed to come a little late. It could be that we are used to the weather now and our bodies have acclimatized, we didn't take the blankets of our bed until end of May. There was a real change in heat from May to June this year and throughout the summer there was sunshine every day. The best time to go out in the evening was around 8.30 pm when it cools down a little.

Come September the weather changes pretty quickly and it starts to get dark around 9.15 pm and earlier and earlier each night. But the earliest it gets dark during the winter months is around 6.00 pm. Last September has also seen some cloudy very humid days, rain and thunderstorms.

Clothes that you need...

If you are coming here for a holiday any time from October to May bring a jacket and jumper for the nights and just in case there are some cold days. Something waterproof and or umbrella is useful too.

The other thing to bring during the winter month is some slippers. I am not an old man but the marble floors are really really cold on your feet in the winter. I think it is because we are used to carpets and central heating!

In the summer bring anything to wear that will to keep feeling you comfortable and cool!

Is the weather in Malaga good enough to sunbath all year round

climate in spainSunbathing is possible all year round but between November and May you can get quite cold winds. However if it's sunny, it's warm enough for at least for 2 hours per day - even at Christmas!

In the summer the temperatures in Malaga soar. Last year, one day in August was 45ºC but the normal day time weather in Malaga seemed to be around 35ºC which is hot and just about tolerable.

How different is the weather in Malaga to the weather in Marbella

On my numerous trips to Malaga Airport I have noticed a slight difference, only a bit, but it's there. In the summer it seems to be hotter, and in the winter - if the wind is blowing from the west - it can feel quite a lot colder.

If when you come into land at Malaga Airport any time between October and May when you look out of the window you will more than likely see snow on the mountains. A fine example was yesterday when we had thunderstorms in the early hours of the morning, but by 10:00 it was lovely and sunny, but in Malaga it was apparently pouring down.

Should you get a car with Air conditioning?

My answer is Yes from March until October, even though you are unlikely to use the air conditioning much in the winter months the weather in Malaga can throw out the odd hot day in the winter but putting the window down is generally all that is needed.
