Grazalema

Grazalema

A number of our friends have been to Grazalema and have told us how beautiful it was. One of our friends was also Manager of the El Fuerte Hotel there for a while and we kept meaning to go whilst he worked there.

Anyway we recently decided we would finally go. We got such a cheap deal with El Fuerte Hotel Grazalema, it was around €75 per night for the 3 of us including breakfast. That's cheaper than staying at home in Marbella (sometimes).

To drive to Grazalema from Marbella, you go all the way up the Ronda Road. We spent the day in Ronda on the way there, but there is now a bypass so you can drive around the outskirts. There are lots of new roads up there, the construction is incredible.

From Ronda the drive is about 35 mins, and the drive is quite flat - not like driving up the twisting roads to Ronda.

We found the hotel quite easily, in fact its the first hotel on the right on the road to Grazalema. The hotel was very nice, we had a ground floor room which had patio doors on to the gardens and same level as pool, jacuzzi and farm. There is also a walkway through the countryside to Grazalema - quite a long walk though!

The hotel also had a games room, internet, bikes for hire. Breakfasts were probably one of the best we have currently had in Spain, although not fantastic. The food...well, bit of a let down to be honest. So go for the fresh air and the scenery...not the food. We ordered hamburger and chips for lunch, even had a picture of it. When it came back to us it was a tiny chicken curried burger.

To get to the Pueblo of Grazalema it was just a 5 minute drive. It's a small village, nothing to it really, unless we completely missed something. If you want to shop...well you have to go to Ronda.

If you like exploring there are lots of places to drive to, we went to a number of different towns, also found ourselves doing three point turns on the edges of mountains because we found ourselves so high, we couldn't go any further.....this is a common occurrence here in Spain for us as my driver suffers from Vertigo....we once got half way up to Sierra Nevada and then we had to turn around - so I have never been there!
