Malaga Airport to Gaucin

Gaucin is quite a popular Inland Area for tourists. It is easily accessible by car for Ronda, Grazalema, Seville & Gibraltar. You can see more on the map below.

Gaucin is a typical White Andalucian Pueblo / Village and is just 1.5 hours away from Malaga. If you want to experience a more "real spain" then you definitely need to go inland.

It can be tricky to get to and we would definitely recommend hiring a car.

From Malaga Airport to Gaucin is 117km according to Google Maps. They say a drive will take around 1hour 20 minutes but I would say more like 1hour 30 to 1hour 45 if its your first time there.

Come out of Malaga Arrivals Hall and you will see the taxis outside. The Malaga AIrport Taxis will drive via the Coast Road unless you tell them to drive via the Toll and pay the extra (a few euros). Taxis from Malaga Airport to Gaucin will charge around €150 to €180 depending on the time you are travelling. Try set a price first of all or ask to look in the price book they have. We cannot find a direct bus from Malaga to Gaucin. Instead you would go to Ronda which is the nearest big City close by and then catch a bus to Gaucin from Ronda. Here is some excellent information about Buses from Malaga to Gaucin.

To can go to Gaucin by Train from Malaga. From the airport to you need to take the train back to Maria Zambrano, the main train station in Malaga. From here you take a train to Bobadilla or Ronda and then change for a train to Gaucin. The journey either way is just under 3 hours. Do check the timetable direct with www.renfe.es

To hire a car at Malaga isn't as expensive as many think. You can get a quote at the top of this page. Once you have your car the journey will be around 1.5 hours to Gaucin.

As you are driving, if the sea is on your left you are driving towards Marbella / Gibraltar. If the sea is on your right then you are driving towards Malaga / Nerja.You can get directions from the map above www.googlemaps.com.

The absolute cheapest way to travel from Malaga Airport to Gaucin would be by Bus & Train but if you factor in all your time travelling, you may find at off peak times Malaga Car Hire really isn't as expensive as you may think. The quickest way to Gaucin from Malaga Airport is by car albeit Private Transfer, Taxi or Car Hire. Many people do suggest hiring a car is best when going to Gaucin.
