Building Works at Malaga Airport

artists impression of new Malaga AirportThe new Malaga Airport terminal is now 85% complete and works can be clearly seen and identified with its distinctive roof covering formed by 117 small silver pyramid shaped domes.

The civil work will finish in about four months and the testing phase will take another 6 months (split in two periods of 3 months).

The initial testing will be the luggage loads and general operational use before the Spanish Airport Authority begins using real people and signage to see how well it all works.

The new Malaga airport terminal should be in service by the end of 2009/ beginning of 2010. It will increase its current 24 gates to 48 and will have have up to 86 check ins. It will be able to handle 9,000 passengers an hour.

New Car Park at Malaga Airport

The new car park is almost finished with the access roads and tunnel running along one end eventually being used as an internal link between the north and south access points . There is just one more placement to be made that will tie up the whole system and enable vehicles to move throughout the complex.

New Runway and Station at Malaga Airport

construction works at Malaga AirportWork on the second runway is 35% complete with cleaning and draining almost finished in the area close to the Guadalhorce River .

The new railway line will be dug under this river with the second runway and the station that will be located in the new terminal will house the AVE train in the future.
