Items stolen from suitcase at Malaga Airport

Hi Jo
Having returned on home, we discovered our suitecase had been tampered with and our Canon camcorder with charger, and Sony palm held organiser, were missing, we thought we might have left them in our aqpartment, but a friend double checked and this was not the case.

They were off loaded straight from the plane to carousel at Norwich Airport so can only assume that they went missing through the baggage handling system at Malaga.

Who do we report this too there, can it be done by email, or do we need to phone etc.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards A

Hi A,

Sorry to hear your things are missing.

Unfortunately, you are not the first. This seems to be happening alot and has been in the local papers too. The more people complain and inform the airport, surely the better. Something has to be done about the staff working with the luggage.

The telephone numbers for lost property are 0034 952 048 851, 0034 952 048 837.

There is no email. Here is Aena Website with FAQs

I do hope you either get your things back or at least be able to claim for your losses.

Regards

Joanne

Hi
I arrived from Malaga yeasterday and was qucik suspicious because the straps of my bag had been undone. But quick inspection revealed nothing missing. On returning home and unpacking I took out my jewellery box and placed it on the side.

The following morning I went to put on some earings to find it had been emptied out.

Luckily I was wearing the more expensive stuff and cannot claim the rest on my insurance because valuables were meant to be kept with you.

I have tried contacting my airline and manchester airport but nobody seems bothered- It is annoying if you cannot complain to anyone how is anything going to get done so that it won't happen to onthers in the future?

Did you have any luck with the number for Malaga airport?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear of your items being stolen.

I have actually been on the phone all morning trying to get numbers and emails of people you can complain to as obviously Malaga Airport is no use. I am so worked up by this myself as it obviously it could affect me as I fly from Malaga on a frequent basis.

I actually phoned the BAA who put me on to someone else. Then I phone a baggage handling company too.

Basically, I have been told that if items go missing from your suitcase, you must contact the airline you flew with. You have the contract with them. They will then get in touch with the baggage handling company themselves.

The number I have been given at Malaga Airport is 0034 952 048 729 This is the police.

All I can say is complain and make sure you make your situation known. Eventually, something has to be done with this problem.

I hope you have some luck.

So for anyone else with items missing.

Get in touch with the airline you flew with straight away! They will then get onto the luggage handling company.

Regards

Jo

I was told by this man at the baggage handling company that this is a common problem at all airports especially Heathrow.

Hello
I have also had items of jewellery stolen from a vanity case on a flight to Malaga on August 19th. It was after the terrorist threats and all hand luggage had to be put in the plane's hold. I have written to Easy Jet and to Bristol Airport (which is where we flew from) but having read these reports I see the problem probably lies with Malaga Airport. I shall try the numbers you suggest and see what happens. Any other ideas? Is there an address I can also write to if the numbers are really as busy as you say?

There is no address or email address Im afraid. When I have spoken to people about items stolen I have been told it lies with the carrier you flew with so I would just deal with them whether it happened in the UK or Spain.

There have been many items stolen recently. When you book the flights, you take the contract out with that carrier so they are responsible. They all deal with their own baggage handling services too.

I hope you get some response. It would be great to hear from you if you ever receive your items or compensation back.

Regards

Jo

I have jusst arrived home having departed from Malaga Airport today to find that a brand new Camera I had purchased for my sons 18th Birthday (tomorrow)has been stolen from my siutcase. The supermarket plastic bag is still in the case but has been ripped open and the contents removed. I can only assume that this was spotted using some security equipment and subsequently stolen.

It wories me that in these days of heightened security that items can be removed by trusted staff, could other items just as easily have been added.

Hi there

I have just arrived back from Malaga airport in the last few hours only to discover my camera, PSP, ipod and sunglasses have been stolen from my suitcase.

I have spoken to BMI Baby (the carrier) who told me to speak to the police, the police tell me there is nothing they can do as it cannot be proven where they were stolen and the airport tell me to speak to the carrier!

Very frustrating as no one seems to be able to help.

Has anyone been able to successfully claim back their lost items through their insurance company?
Is it worth contacting Malaga airport?

I fly to Malaga quite often and have never had anything stolen in thirty odd years. however, there is always a first time, so is it possible to carry the camcorder and digital cameras in the hand luggage? All other items are expendable.

Hi i have just returned from holiday flying out from malaga airport on opening my suitcase i found my handycam was missing,i am very annoyed that airlines continue to employ people who steal and do no further checks to stop this happening. The airline i flew with Jet2.com state no liability for items carried in suitcases, but they should hold some responsibility for accepting my luggage and charging me a fee for carring it.

I am shocked to read these comments posted on here and how often this has happened. I too have just returned home to find my luggage had been opened with my combination security lock having been removed. Items taken included a GPS Satnav, camera and some fairly expensive cosmetics and face creams. All in all 750 pounds worth. I have reported this to police locally who I have asked to fax Malaga airport police. I have not called my carrier as yet - Flyglobespan. What worries me - in addition to personal belongings having been gone through - is that this surely makes a complete mockery of airline & airport security of luggage. If someone can take things out - they can also put things in!!! I do not intend to let this rest until something is done. For everyone's sakes!

Hi
I returned from Malaga on Sunday to find that my camera and a ring of serious sentimental value were missing from my bag.
I have tried Easyjet who seem unwilling to do anything and I have spoken to the police.
I did however get through to someone at Menzies Aviation on Sunday evening but haven't been able to get through again. He told me that I needed a report from Easyjet followed by a report from the police in order to get them to view the CCTV footage of the baggage handlers.
Does anyone know how I can insist this happens.
I am a BBC producer and am very tempted to make this an investigative documentary as I am outraged. I feel stupid for packing such a valuable ring, but surely this is a very serious problem.
Help!
